A Panel Discussion on Cultural Context vs Secular Adaptations of Spiritual Practices Within Research

Buddhism, Psychology, and Mental Health faculty and friends met for a lively discussion on the debate over cultural context vs dis-embeddedness of praxis within BPMH research. How much can a practice be dis-embedded from its spiritual or cultural roots before it’s become something else entirely? How much can a practice include its spiritual context before it is not relatable to research endeavors? Speakers included Professor Anderson Todd, Professor John Vervaeke, Professor Michel Ferrari, Professor Philip Mason, and Juensung Kim (PhD Candidate).

Please watch the recorded version of this discussion for an opportunity for critical examination of approaches to research on Buddhism and other spiritual practices.
